  1. I knew your parents and I also knew AdaBelle and Arthur through the Methodist Church. How many thousands of hours did your Dad spend in his store? Reading your posts makes me remember Southampton when I was a little girl in the 50s. What a different time it was. Can you imagine finding your lost purse in NYC?

  2. Back in the 50s and 60s, I think Art's Market was open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. (may have been 8:00 back in the very beginning), M-Sa, and Sunday hours from 7 to 1. Then in the 70s, I think he changed it to 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. He was there all the time, and in the early days would run deliveries to homebound folks after hours. However, he was conscientious about taking a two-week family vacation every summer -- something I sure appreciate in retrospect!

As for NYC, I'm not that pessimistic, as I know lots of good people there who I'm confident would turn in a lost purse. I left my briefcase in a deli in Philadelphia last week and received a call from the owner an hour later. There are still good people out there.
