FINAL THOUGHTS

“I’ve always enjoyed being married to Art.  You couldn’t have a nicer marriage than we have.”

While I was staying with my father at a hospice center shortly before his death in 2009, he liked to be surrounded by photographs of his life.  One of the workers commented on the photo of June by his bed.  He said, “I wish you could have met her.  She was the best woman I ever knew.”

  1. Thank you for this blog. What a WONDERFUL tribute this is to your parents, and to their life and love for each other -- and to your love for them. I found myself tearing up as I scrolled through the pictures of their married life together. I have been a faithful reader here, and got engrossed in their courtship and love and felt like I knew them -- a little bit, anyway. Then comes the last entry - and the realization that they are now gone. However, through this blog they are not forgotten.

  3. Thanks so much Lee, for this great look back into the 40s and 50s in Southampton and the lovely story of your parents courtship and marriage. It is such a nice tribute to them. I remember Aunt Adabelle and Art fondly.

  6. While searching for old issues of Traphagen's "Fashion Digest", I happened upon your blog. Not only is it a wonderful tribute to loved ones, it also a great diary to the times and lifestyles of New Yorkers, art students, and young lovers of that time in history. I never felt like I was invading their privacy as I read their letters; it was much more like they were sharing their thoughts... just daily adventures of two artistic and loving young prople. Thanks.
